My name is Michael Reinhardt, I served for four years in the Marine Corps as a tanker stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. After my time in the service, I jumped into the work force, but because of the economy, I was unable to secure anything concrete. Wanting to support my family, I decided to enter the student life. After having a bad experience with trying to get into community college because my VA paper work was filled incorrectly or not all, it was suggested to me to speak to Matt McLain here at Wayne State about the certifying process to help understand why I was running into these problems and how to solve them. By the end of the day I was attending my first class as a Wayne State student. If it wasn't for the excellent staff here supporting veterans and the student veteran community through the Student Veterans Organization and resource center, I would not be here today.
I initially started school majoring in Biology with the intent of going into the master's program for Industrial Hygiene. I chose this path because of opportunities I could have had in the work force rather than doing something I actually wanted. I recently switched to Journalism with the intent of becoming a sports reporter/broadcaster. I am also very active in the organization, I enjoy having the camaraderie that from being in the service without the formalities that come with military life. I am also proud to have the opportunity to be associated with an award winning organization that not only does so much for us veterans returning to school, but the community as well.
